U18 AAA Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs lose Game 1 of regional championship

They’ll be back at it on Saturday

It wasn’t the start they were hoping for at the 2023 Pacific Regional Championship but the U18 AAA Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs are far from done just yet.

On Friday evening the Chiefs hosted the Fraser Valley Rush in Game 1 of a best-of-three series but were unable to buy a goal and lost 3-0 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Rush scored one goal per period but the Chiefs goaltender Taya Christie made 26 saves in the effort.

Despite the loss, the Chiefs will play again on Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Rush at the GWH for a chance to keep their season alive.

With a win, they’ll play again on Sunday afternoon but if Red Deer loses they’ll come up short of qualifying for the Esso Cup that takes place later this month.
