U18 Canadian women earn bronze

Laura Dally had 13 points as Canada overcame a terrible first-quarter performance to beat Chile 81-42 and take the bronze medal Sunday at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women basketball tournament.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Laura Dally had 13 points as Canada overcame a terrible first-quarter performance to beat Chile 81-42 and take the bronze medal Sunday at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women basketball tournament.

Canada’s top-four finish at the tournament earned it a berth in the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, which takes place in Chile.

Melissa Mullins and Katherine Plouffe each had 12 points for Canada, while Michelle Plouffe had 10 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and five steals.

Rocio Dieguez Arcuch and Fernanda Serrano Aburto finished with 10 points each for Chile.

The United States met Brazil in the gold-medal game.
