Victoria Royals complete third-period comeback, knock off Red Deer Rebels 3-1

Royals 3 Rebels 1

The Red Deer Rebels were sitting pretty through nearly 50 minutes.

Unfortunately, the final 10 minutes belonged to the home side in the first game of a five-game B.C. road swing for Red Deer.

Red Deer led 1-0 through 40 minutes, but the Victoria Royals scored three times in the final nine minutes and two seconds to pick up a 3-1 victory Tuesday night.

Royals captain Phillip Schultz buried the game-tying goal with a wrist shot on a breakaway midway through the third period and notched the winner 4:38 later to clinch the win. Kaid Oliver was johnny on the spot and added an insurance marker with 2:24 to play, to close out the victory for Victoria.

It was just the Rebels second loss of the year when leading after 40 minutes.

With 5:05 left in the second period, Rebels forward Ben King jammed in a rebound to open the scoring on the power play. It was his 15th goal of the season.

Schultz found the equalizer with 9:02 left in the third period, making a nice move and burying a wrister past Ethan Anders.

The Rebels are back on the road Wednesday against the Vancouver Giants.
