Vipers extend winning streak to 13

Lucky 13 didn’t come easy for the Red Deer Vipers but they got the job done again.

Red Deer topped the Mountainview Colts 4-2 at home Saturday night and have now won 13 straight games in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play. It is also the longest streak in Junior B hockey across the province.

Connor Sullivan opened the scoring at Servus Arena Saturday, but the visitors responded with a pair of tallies midway through the frame to take the lead.

A power-play goal from defenceman Keagan Kingwell tied the game for Red Deer at 11:09 of the second. Matt Cormack notched what would be the game-winner shorthanded with just 42 seconds left in the period.

Only 85 seconds into the third, Keenan Smith buried another Vipers power play goal to close out the scoring.

Justin Anderson stopped 32 of 34 shots to earn the victory in the Red Deer net.

Red Deer hosts the Ponoka Stampeders Monday, and finish the first half with a pair of games next weekend.
