Vipers improve to 7-6 in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play

The Red Deer Vipers picked up their third win of the month in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play Saturday.

The Red Deer Vipers picked up their third win of the month in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play Saturday.

Red Deer knocked off the Strathmore Wheatland Kings 4-1 on home ice to improve to 7-6 on the season.

Justin Paarup and Keenan Smith had first period tallies and Jace Paarup and Sean McGonigal rounded on the scoring in the final two periods. Keaton Sawicki had two assists and Canon Whitbread had 26 saves in the win.

The Sylvan Lake Wranglers also notched a pair of victories in weekend play. Saturday they knocked off the Lammond Lakers 3-1 and Sunday they edged the Ponoka Stampeders 3-1.

Payton Wright led the way with two goals and an assist for Sylvan Lake Saturday, while Zachary Daniels also added a goal. Brett Westin had two assists and Shae Herbert stopped 22 shots in the win.

Sunday, Jackson Rider, Kyle Richmond and Zane Bennett all had tallies for Sylvan Lake. Dayton Playford, Braidon Westin, Beaudon Rider and Austin Watson drew assists. Cameron Loomis-Labrosse made 24 saves in the win. Bailey Nesbitt had the only goal for Ponoka.

The Stettler Lightning lost their only game of the weekend, falling 5-4 to the High River Flyers. Brenden Tucker had two goals for Stettler and Rylee Jacobson, Erik Rost, Austin Jacobson all add a goal. Indiana Kelly finished the night with 23 saves.

The Rocky Rams dropped a 6-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday. Landon Siegle had both tallies for the Rams and Devon Carroll made 40 saves in the loss.
