ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Kris Wasylowich of Lethbridge shot a superb opening round of 8-under 62 Thursday to take the early lead at the Canadian Tour Championship.

Wasylowich leads Calgary’s Ryan Yip (63) by one shot, while six-time Canadian Tour winner Mike Grob (64) is third.

The purse for the event is $325,000, the largest in Canadian Tour history.

Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., the low Canadian at the RBC Canadian Open last month, is alone in fourth after a 65.
