Wheat Kings beat Blades, advance to WHL semifinals

SASKATOON — Matt Calvert scored the winning goal 8:09 into the third period as the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-4 Monday night to advance to the next round of the Western Hockey League playoffs.

Colby Robak, Aaron Lewadniuk, Shayne Wiebe and Scott Glennie also scored for the Wheat Kings, who won the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal 4-2, setting up a battle with the Calgary Hitmen in the conference final.

Mark Viedensky, Jeremy Boyer, Charles Inglis and Gaelan Patterson replied for the Blades.

Brandon netminder Jacob DeSerres made 33 saves, while Steven Stanford stopped 30 shots for Saskatoon.
