WHL releases pre-season schedule

Rebels also annouce training camp dates

On the heels of the NHL Stanley Cup finals coming to an end Sunday night, the WHL kept the hockey hoopla rolling with the announcement of the 2017 pre-season schedule on Wednesday.

The schedule includes 62 games, starting Aug. 29, and finishing on Sept. 16.

There will be five pre-season tournaments, with the Red Deer Rebels set to host the Calgary Hitmen, Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince George Cougars on Sept. 1 and 2 at the Centrium.

The Rebels will open their pre-season tournament with a contest against the Calgary Hitmen on Sept. 1. at 7 p.m. The following night Red Deer will host the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7 p.m.

From Sept. 7-9, the Tri-City Americans will host the Rebels, Kootenay, Portland, Seattle and Spokane.

Red Deer will play five pre-season games total, including their final game on Sept. 16 against the Medicine Hat Tigers at with Centrium with puck drop set for 7 p.m.

The Rebels also announced their training camp dates for 2017 and players will gather at the Centrium beginning Aug. 23 and camp will conclude with the Black and White Game on Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m.

The WHL regular season schedule is expected to be released in late June.
