18-year-old headed to court on drunk-driving charges after crash kills one

VIOLET GROVE — Alcohol-related charges have been laid against an 18-year-old man after a fatal crash southwest of Edmonton.

RCMP say a 20-year-old man from Drayton Valley, Alta., was killed when his vehicle collided with an SUV early Sunday morning at a rural intersection near the community of Violet Grove.

The victim died at the scene, but his name has not been released.

Another 18-year-old male who was a passenger in the SUV was sent to hospital in Edmonton, but his condition is not known.

Mounties say the accused, who is a resident of Brazeau County, is facing two charges that included impaired driving causing death.

His name will not be released until he appears in a Drayton Valley courtroom next Tuesday.
