Two people have been injured in an avalanche near Sunshine Village in Banff National Park.
EMS from Banff and Canmore were called to the scene around 2:45 p.m. Monday.
Stuart Brideaux with EMS says two people were rushed to hospital.
He says one person was in serious condition and the other has been upgraded to stable condition.
Sunshine Village says on its website that the avalanche happened in a run called “Milky Way” in the freeride zone of Delirium Dive.
“The skiers have been rescued by emergency crews and have since been transported to the hospital in Banff. We wish the skiers well,” the website says.
The website also says the slide was in an area of the resort that requires all riders to carry an avalanche beacon, a probe, a shovel and to ride with a partner.
“We’d like to ask all skiers and snowboards to take extra precautions when riding in the backcountry and when riding in our freeride zones.”
On Sunday, three people were able to escape a slide in the Kananaskis backcountry, without serious injuries.
Public safety officials say six people were near an area called Hero’s Knob, southwest of Calgary, when the skier-triggered slide happened Sunday afternoon.
