$25-million strategy aimed at human trafficking

The Canadian government pledged $25-million over four years to a national strategy to will help deal with the thousands of people who are trafficked in this country.

In Red Deer, Magdalene House Society is also hoping to assist victims of human trafficking with an aftercare facility that will help them obtain legal assistance, counselling, medical care, educational programs, employment programs and other support services.

The society is a charitable organizations that hopes to raise $5,000,000 in an endowment campaign.

To help reach the goal the society is hosting a freedom walk on Saturday at 9 a.m., which will be in support of an aftercare facility.

The 10-km hike through the park will begin at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 5579 47th Street. Organizers are encouraging interested participants to raise pledges from family, friends and co-workers. MPs Joy Smith and Earl Dreeshen will be present at the kick-off celebration.
