3 dead, 12 hurt in crash of bus carrying Japanese tourists in US

Authorities say a tour bus carrying Japanese sightseers from Las Vegas to a national park in Utah crashed on Interstate 15, killing three passengers.

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Authorities say a tour bus carrying Japanese sightseers from Las Vegas to a national park in Utah crashed on Interstate 15, killing three passengers.

Officials say 12 other people were taken to hospitals in Cedar City and other places, including some with critical injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden says the bus was heading to Bryce Canyon National Park when it veered into a median and rolled over about 6:40 p.m. Monday about four miles (six kilometres) north of Cedar City.

Roden says investigators want to ask the driver what caused him to swerve.

Trooper James Keller tells the St. George Spectrum at least two passengers were ejected from the van-sized bus, and one passenger trapped inside was killed.
