Admirals stay afloat in playoffs

The Sylvan Lake Admirals staved off elimination in their provincial senior AAA hockey semifinal series with the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs by posting a 5-1 win at home on Saturday.

The Sylvan Lake Admirals staved off elimination in their provincial senior AAA hockey semifinal series with the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs by posting a 5-1 win at home on Saturday.

Brett Yeo and Chevan Wilson each scored twice for the Admirals, who trail 3-1 in the best-of-seven set. Jeff Topilko also connected for the hosts, while Jordan Ramstead turned aside 28 shots.

Mike Hurley scored the lone Chiefs goal. Netminder David Tetrault made 29 saves.

The Chiefs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the series with a win on Friday at Fort Saskatchewan, where Jamie Marshall, with two goals, Hurley, Chris Giacobbo and Trevor Kordyban scored for the hosts. Topilko notched two goals and Yeo also replied for the Admirals.

Blake Grenier made 29 saves for the win. Steve Wagner stopped 38 shots in the Sylvan Lake net.

Elsewhere Friday, Paul Cabana potted two goals as the Bentley Generals clipped the host Stony Plain Eagles 6-2 to complete a sweep of the other best-of-seven semifinal.

Also scoring for the Generals were Brandin Cote, Braden Appleby, Curtis Austring and Brandon Smith. Nathan Ward and Doug Auchenberg staked the Eagles to an early 2-0 lead.

Scott Galenza stopped 24 shots for the Generals, who fired 46 at Eagles netmiinder Cody Rudkowsky.

Game 5 of the Chiefs-Admirals series will be played this Friday at Fort Saskatchewan. A sixth game, if necessary, will be played on Sunday at Sylvan Lake.
