CALGARY — A power outage at the Calgary International Airport on Saturday night was caused by the failure of the airport’s back-up power system.

Enmax says the lights on the runway went dark just before 8 p.m. due to a rare cable fault.

The outage just happened to coincide with Earth Hour but there was no deliberate relationship.

The power company’s back-up supply for the airport came on within seconds.
