Edmonton girl dies in jet ski crash in the Okanagan

KELOWNA, B.C. — A 10-year-old girl from Edmonton is dead after a jet ski crash on B.C.’s Okanagan Lake.

RCMP say a boat collided with the small craft she was riding with another person near a Kelowna condo building around 8 p.m. Friday night.

Emergency crews searched the lake for wreckage and eventually found the child’s body.

The other jet ski rider was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A man and woman on the boat were not hurt.

Police don’t believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Inmate at Edmonton Institution charged with death of fellow prisoner

EDMONTON — Police have charged an inmate at the Edmonton Institution in the death of a fellow prisoner earlier this month.

Lance Matthew Shane Regan, who is 24 years old, is charged with first-degree murder.

The charges stem from the death of 21-year-old inmate Mason Tex Montgrand on Aug. 16 at the maximum-security penitentiary.

Police were called to the prison after a fight broke out between the inmates.

Shortly after officers had the situation under control, the victim went into medical distress and died a short time later.

An autopsy concluded he had been stabbed.
