Alberta couple faces child abuse charges

A couple from northeastern Alberta faces charges related to child abuse.

COLD LAKE — A couple from northeastern Alberta faces charges related to child abuse.

RCMP say they responded to a complaint in Cold Lake on Wednesday and found a girl with injuries that were about a week old.

The child was taken by air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital where she is in stable condition.

The child’s father, who is 30, is charged with assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

He has been released from custody with conditions and is to have no contact with his daughter.

His girlfriend, who is 21, faces similar charges.

They are to appear in Cold Lake provincial court Jan. 8.
