Alberta government calls Calgary-Glenmore byelection

The Alberta government has called a byelection in the Calgary-Glenmore riding for Sept. 14.

CALGARY — The Alberta government has called a byelection in the Calgary-Glenmore riding for Sept. 14.

The seat became vacant last May when former deputy premier Ron Stevens resigned prior to his appointment as an Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench justice.

Candidates in the byelection include Calgary Ald. Diane Colley-Urquhart for the Progressive Conservatives.

Eric Carpendale will represent the NDP.

Alberta Liberals have chosen Avalon Roberts, a practising psychiatrist, as their candidate.

Paul Hinman, former leader of the Wildrose Alliance, will represent his party in the campaign.

The Calgary-Glenmore riding has been held by the Progressive Conservatives since 1969.
