Tyress Goodrunning scored for the Rebels, who trailed 1-0 after two periods. The game was scoreless in the first.

Justin Travis made 28 saves for Red Deer, who had 25 shots on goal.

The second game goes Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at the Arena with the third game, if necessary, Sunday.

The Rebels White open their best-of-three series against Airdrie Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Arena. The second game is in Airdrie Saturday with the third game, if needed, Sunday at noon at the Arena.
