Alberta MLA introduces anti-idling bill

EDMONTON — An Independent member of the Alberta legislature has introduced a private member’s bill that would punish people for idling their cars.

Dave Taylor’s proposed legislation would limit to people to idling their vehicles for three minutes in a one-hour period.

Anything more and they could be fined $100.

Public transit and emergency vehicles would be exempt.

The law would not be in effect if the weather dips to -23 C.

While some say the bill would be un-enforceable, Taylor says it’s a small step to helping the environment.

He says it’s something that wouldn’t radically change people’s lives but would make a positive impact on the environment and greenhouse gas emissions.

Private member’s bills are rarely passed.
