FORT MCMURRAY — An autopsy has confirmed that the death of a man who was found in an apartment complex in northern Alberta was a homicide.

RCMP in Fort McMurray have identified the victim as 19-year-old Abdinasir Abdulkadir Dirie, who was originally from the greater Toronto area.

Friends of the dead man have said his name was Abdinasir Ali.

Police say Dirie, who was of Somali descent, had moved to Alberta within the last year and was known to police.

They say he faced drug-related charges stemming from the search of an apartment in January.

The Somali-Canadian community says he is the latest victim in an escalating gang and drug turf war involving Somali men.
