Alberta skips dominate seniors

Alberta continues to dominate at the Canadian senior curling championships.

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Alberta continues to dominate at the Canadian senior curling championships.

Wilf Edgar of Red Deer, Alta., and Cathy King of Edmonton are both sitting atop the standings after the ninth draw.

King had improved to 5-0 by defeating Nova Scotia’s Colleen Jones 9-4 in Draw 9.

Edgar (4-0) had the ninth draw off. Earlier Monday, he kept his unbeaten streak intact with a 10-4 win over New Brunswick’s Mark Armstrong.

Cathy Cunningham of Newfoundland and Labrador moved into sole possession of second place at 4-1 after scoring one in an extra end to beat New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon 7-6.

Idle Saskatchewan was alone in third at 3-1, while Ontario fell into a tie with Nova Scotia for fourth at 3-2 after being routed 10-5 by Quebec’s Odette Trudel.

On the men’s side, B.C.’s Brian Windsor moved into second place at 4-1 with a 9-7 win over Quebec’s Pierre Charette.

Idle Newfoundland (3-1) was alone in third, while Northern Ontario’s Robbie Gordon moved into a tie for fourth with Manitoba at 3-2 after posting a 6-2 win over Prince Edward Island.

Manitoba was hammered 11-2 by Saskatchewan.
