LETHBRIDGE — A southern Alberta teenager has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his mother.

A lawyer for the 17-year-old Fort MacLeod youth entered the plea in Lethbridge youth court.

The teen, who is being held at the Calgary Remand Centre, appeared via closed-circuit television.

He has been remanded in custody for a 60-day medical and psychological assessment at Alberta Hospital near Edmonton and is due back in court Dec. 9.

The assessment will be used to determine whether he should be sentenced as a youth or an adult.

The teen was charged after the body of his 34-year-old mother was found in her Fort MacLeod home in May.
