Alberta Tories accused of crossing the line with riding boundary changes

There’s a fresh battle brewing over how to redraw Alberta’s electoral boundaries.

There’s a fresh battle brewing over how to redraw Alberta’s electoral boundaries.

The Wildrose Alliance says Premier Ed Stelmach’s government is bullying an arm’s-length committee that is supposed to redraw the electoral map.

Deputy premier Doug Horner has given the committee a 200-page report from the government caucus that contains suggested changes.

Paul Hinman, a member of the legislature for the Wildrose Alliance, notes the majority of committee members were appointed by the Conservative government.

And, he says, the message to the committee is clear: do what the government wants.

Hinman says suggested changes that chop up Wildrose Alliance ridings in and around Calgary are clearly meant to hobble the surging right-wing party in the next election.
