Alberta Tory fiscal hawk says defection of two colleagues to Wildrose a mistake

One of several fiscal hawks within the Alberta Tories says it was a mistake for two of his former colleagues to defect to the Wildrose Alliance.

EDMONTON — One of several fiscal hawks within the Alberta Tories says it was a mistake for two of his former colleagues to defect to the Wildrose Alliance.

Doug Griffiths says he won’t leave the Progressive Conservatives and doesn’t believe any of the remaining members of his informal group will either.

Heather Forsyth and Rob Anderson left the Tories on Monday for the Alliance, saying they had lost faith in Premier Ed Stelmach.

Griffiths, MLA for Battle River-Wainwright, says its unfortunate the two didn’t give the premier a chance to make good on his promise to make changes this year.

He says it’s clear the government faces challenges, but he suggests it’s more effective to fix problems from within the party.

Other members of the group include Raj Sherman, Jonathan Denis, Kyle Fawcett, Alana DeLong and Doug Elniski.
