Albertans still watiing for flood relief

IRVINE — The Stelmach government is being deluged with complaints from people who were affected by flooding earlier this year in southern Alberta.

IRVINE — The Stelmach government is being deluged with complaints from people who were affected by flooding earlier this year in southern Alberta.

More than 100 angry residents confronted Municipal Affairs Minister Hector Goudreau Wednesday during a meeting in Irvine near Medicine Hat.

Residents say they are frustrated with what they say is the government’s sluggish response to their damage claims.

Flood victim Wanda Smith says the meeting organized by the province did not provide answers as to why her friends and family are still homeless.

To date the province has issued 365 flood response cheques to the more than 2,500 people who have applied for help.

On July 7, Premier Ed Stelmach apologized to people in southern Alberta for not moving more quickly to help them deal with the flooding and promised his government would speed up the relief process.
