Canadian slugger Joey Votto is headed to the all-star game after winning the final National League roster spot in a fan vote. The Cincinnati Reds first baseman from Toronto led all vote-getters with 13.7 million, Major League Baseball said Thursday, to earn the first all-star selection of his career. Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals, Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies and Billy Wagner of the Atlanta Braves finished behind him. New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher beat out Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis to claim the last spot on the American League roster in the closest race in the nine-year history of the final vote.
