EDMONTON — Two Prairie provinces are stepping up in the international effort to ease the devastation left by flooding in Pakistan.

Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach says his province will donate a half-million dollars to the Canadian Red Cross for flood aid.

Manitoba has also announced it will double its original donation to $200,000.

The federal government’s contribution is so far up to $32 million.

The United Nations says nearly a half-billion dollars will be required to address the disaster, which has displaced about 20 million people.
