Alta school field trip cancellations over swine flu probably not needed: doctor

Alberta’s chief medical health officer says school field trip cancellations over swine flu fears are probably unnecessary.

EDMONTON — Alberta’s chief medical health officer says school field trip cancellations over swine flu fears are probably unnecessary.

Dr. Andre Corriveau says that while he understands parents’ concerns, cancelling trips is a step that is not really needed at this point.

Edmonton public schools have cancelled all field trips outside Canada for students as well as foreign travel and air travel within Canada for staff.

The city’s Catholic school board has put a halt to all field trips outside the province as well as all business trips for staff.

Alberta still has only two confirmed cases of swine flu, both of them mild.

There are 19 confirmed cases across Canada.
