Music celebrating Noah’s Ark will start off the Easter weekend at the Red Deer College Arts Centre.

The RDC Chamber Choir will present Prayers From the Ark on Thursday, as part of a year-end concert that also features the RDC Percussion Ensemble and various chamber ensembles.

The a cappella work by Ivor Davies is comprised of a six-song comic cycle, each written from the perspective of one of the animals on the Biblical ark. The choir will also perform a lively arrangement of Loch Lomond and a series of traditional African folk songs that were on the soundtrack of Tumaini, an original film from a student in the RDC Motion Picture Arts program.

The Percussion Ensemble will perform an array of jazz and blues numbers, including Sinister Minister by Bela Fleck and Memphis Stomp by Dave Grusin.

Various chamber ensembles will perform a variety of works, including an excerpt from Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are $11.25 ($8.25 students/ seniors, or $9.25 for RDC staff) from Ticketmaster.
