Armitage takes short route to curling championship

Rob Armitage and his Red Deer rink took the short route to the Alberta senior men’s curling championship, downing Mickey Pendergast of Calgary 9-6 in the Southern Alberta Association A-event final at Calgary during the weekend.

Armitage and his supporting cast of third Randy Ponich, second Wilf Edgar and lead Keith Glover posted a perfect 4-0 record in the SACA playdowns and will compete in the provincials Feb. 15-19 at Lethbridge.

Lowell Peterman’s Red Deer foursome reached the C final at Calgary North Hill but fell 9-4 to Jim Walsh of Calgary.
