Baby survives crash that killed 3 east of Edmonton on Christmas Eve

A baby was the only survivor in a vehicle that slid into the path of a pickup truck east of Edmonton.

MUNDARE, Alta. — A baby was the only survivor in a vehicle that slid into the path of a pickup truck east of Edmonton.

The crash happened on Highway 855 north of Mundare around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

Glenda Dales, chief of Mundare’s volunteer fire department, says the Pontiac Grand-Am appeared to have lost control and slid into the path of a Ford F-350.

Dales says rescue crews found an eight-month-old baby strapped into a car seat in the back.

The baby was in stable condition Sunday at the University of Alberta Hospital.

Police say Cassandra Logozar, 20, Isacc Logozar, 22, and Michelle Driedger, 20, all from Foisy, Alta., died in the crash.

Vegreville RCMP Const. Matt Floyd says the baby’s parents were Isacc Logozar and Driedger.

The baby’s grandparents were with the baby at the hospital, Floyd added.

Weather and road conditions were factors in the crash, Floyd said.

The driver of the truck wasn’t physically injured, but was visibly shaken, telling emergency crews that he didn’t even have a chance to hit the brakes before smashing into the car.
