Victoria Park retirement community has organized a bake sale and film viewing to raise funds for veterans.

The baked goodies will be on sale from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday when a special screening of the documentary Love and Duty will be shown at the retirement complex at 9 Avery St. in Red Deer.

The documentary explores the stories of the 641 women who travelled overseas to serve with the Canadian Red Cross in the Second World War.

All proceeds from the event will go to Outward Bound Canada Veterans Program.

The program helps returning service members and recent veterans readjust to life at home through wilderness courses that use the healing benefits of teamwork and physical challenge.

Wilderness activities are used as metaphors for daily life experiences and shows how the support and collaboration needed to meet the program’s goals can be applied in daily life.

Holiday Retirement’s 34 communities in Canada are aiming to raise $100,000 for the program. Holiday Retirement is matching every dollar donated.

Guests are asked to RSVP by calling 403-309-1957. Donations can also be made online at www.holidaytouch.ca.
