A Bentley-area farmer has been named to the board of the new Alberta Wheat Commission.

Kevin Bender was acclaimed during the commission’s recent annual general meeting. He joins Lacombe’s Terry Young and seven other directors from across the province on the board.

Kent Erickson of Irma was named chair and Henry Vos of Fairview the vice-chair.

“Alberta’s wheat farmers are affected as much as any by the economic climate and our role as a producer-led organization is to invest in and advance the research, market development and leadership initiatives that will allow them to deliver to their full potential,” said Erickson.

The Alberta Wheat Commission is Canada’s only provincial all-wheat commission. It’s producer funded and governed, and has a mandate to increase the long-term profitability of Alberta’s wheat farmers.
