A Red Deer couple is bidding farewell to air compressors after 17 years in the business.

Richard and Donna Hursh have sold the assets of Berkley Compressors (1994) Ltd. to Central Air Equipment Ltd. of Calgary. The deal was scheduled to close today.

Donna said Berkley Compressors will continue to operate at its No. 1, 7887 49th Ave. premises, with its five employees remaining on the job.

Berkley Compressors sells and services air compressors. Its customers include oil and gas companies, as well as tire shops, dairy farms and other businesses that use compressed air, said Donna.

She and Richard bought Berkley Compressors in 1994, initially operating in Blackfalds and then relocating to Red Deer in 1999. Reflecting back, she said there’s been plenty of consolidation in the industry over the years, as well as labour shortages.

Donna isn’t sure what the future now holds for her and her husband.

“We honestly haven’t thought much about it. We thought we’d travel and take it easy, for a little well anyways.”
