Blackfalds to assess social services

The Town of Blackfalds will determine where the gaps are in the community’s social services with a needs assessment starting next month.

The Town of Blackfalds will determine where the gaps are in the community’s social services with a needs assessment starting next month.

Mayor Melodie Stol said the town has grown since the last assessment in 2004 and they want to ensure they are investing in the appropriate social services.

Once the assessment is completed, the document will be turned over to Blackfalds Family and Community Support Services (FCSS). The FCSS board will use to document as a guideline to decide where to put their money when provincial funding is distributed.

Over the next few months, consultants will take stock of social program resources and services. Residents will be asked to fill out a survey, which is expected to be mailed out in early October.

Stol said it is vital that residents take the survey seriously because the town wants to ensure the social needs are being met in the community of nearly 6,400 residents. Residents have three weeks to fill out the questionnaire. The assessment is expected to be completed in the spring of 2012.
