Blackfalds Wranglers grab 2-1 series lead

Chad Muth scored in the fifth overtime period Monday as the Blackfalds Wranglers defeated the visiting Three Hills Thrashers 3-2 to grab a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Heritage Junior B Hockey League North Division semifinal.

Jared Guilbault and Karson French potted regulation-time goals for the Wranglers, with Landon Kletke and Matt Wildeman replying for the Thrashers in the marathon contest that saw Three Hills netminder Devon Dell and Blackfalds goaltender Layne Swier each make 78 saves.

The Wranglers, who were assessed six of 11 minor penalties and the lone misconduct, host the Thrashers in Game 4 tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Red Deer Vipers entertain the Mountainview Colts in Game 3 of the other North semifinal tonight at 8 p.m. at the Arena
