Border Kings grab early series lead

The Lloydminster Border Kings grabbed a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three Chinook Hockey League semifinal with a 7-3 in over the Sylvan Lake Admirals Wednesday.

LLOYDMINSTER — The Lloydminster Border Kings grabbed a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three Chinook Hockey League semifinal with a 7-3 in over the Sylvan Lake Admirals Wednesday.

Griffen Nyren had a pair of goals for the Kings with singles added by Aaron Foster, Jordy Dougan, Adam Creasy, Dallas Fallscheer and Brad Cruickshank.

Turner Lachance, Luke Hanna and Cody Esposito replied for the Admirals, who trailed 3-1 and 6-2 by periods.

Jordan McLaughlin started in goal for the Admirals and allowed five goals on 20 shots over 25 minutes. Jordan Ramstead made 13 saves the rest of the way. Kris Westblom made 18 saves for the Border Kings.

The teams meet tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Sylvan Lake with the third game, if necessary, Sunday at 5 p.m. in Lloydminster.

The other best-of-three semifinal between the Bentley Generals and the Stony Plain Eagles opens tonight at 8:30 p.m. in Bentley.

The second game is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Stony Plain with the third game, if needed, Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Bentley.
