Boy, 8, killed after rear-end crash

An eight-year-old boy is dead and his two older brothers are in hospital after a two-vehicle collision in northwestern Alberta.

VALLEYVIEW — An eight-year-old boy is dead and his two older brothers are in hospital after a two-vehicle collision in northwestern Alberta.

RCMP at Valleyview say a woman and her three children were pulling into the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation off Highway 43 Monday afternoon when their small car was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The boy died at the scene while his mother and two older brothers, age 10 and 12, were taken to hospital prior to the older siblings being flown to Edmonton for treatment.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt.

All occupants of the car are residents of the First Nation, but police have not released their names.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
