Braves roll through weekend

The Red Deer Servus Credit Union Braves posted a 3-1 record in weekend bantam AAA baseball action, including a 14-11 win over the Edmonton Cardinals and a 14-6 loss to Fort McMurray Saturday.

The Red Deer Servus Credit Union Braves posted a 3-1 record in weekend bantam AAA baseball action, including a 14-11 win over the Edmonton Cardinals and a 14-6 loss to Fort McMurray Saturday.

Against the Cards, starting — and winning — pitcher Joel Mazurkewich allowed two runs on six hits while fanning three batters over three innings. Mazurkewich also went three-for-four at the plate, while Brendan Baker was two-for-five with a double and two RBI, Levi Moon was two-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored and Tyler Galloway was two-for-four with one RBI and three runs scored.

In the loss to Fort McMurray, Galloway was the pitcher of record, with Ryan Klinck and Justin Van Tetering also seeing time on the mound. Mazurkewich was three-for-four at the plate with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, Klinck was two-for-four with a triple and RBI, Riley Guntrip was three-for-four with a double and RBI, Baker stroked a triple and Galloway drove in two runs.

The Braves dumped Fort McMurray 14-5 Sunday and also posted a 13-3 win over Sherwood Park Green.

Reliever Mitch Vanson was the winner against Fort McMurray, allowing no hits over three innings with five strikeouts. Nik Fischer was three-for-four at the plate with a triple and RBI, Klinck was three-for-four, Guntrip was two-for-five with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored, and Moon was two-for four with a triple, RBI and two runs.

Guntrip was the winner against Sherwood Park, surrendering two runs on one hit over four innings. He also fanned three batters.

Mazurkewich was three-for-three with a triple and two RBI, Fischer was three-for-three with two RBI and three runs scored, Galloway stroked a pair of triples and drove in a run, Van Tetering had two hits and Baker and Jesse Muirhead each stroked a triple.
