A man crusading against investor abuse by financial professionals will bring his message to Red Deer this Thursday.
Larry Elford, a former investment broker from Lethbridge, has appeared in CBC and CTV documentaries about financial abuse byCrusa investment professionals and has testified before a Parliamentary committee. He also produced a film called Breach of Trust — The Unique Violence of White Collar Crime (available online at www.breachoftrust.ca).
“I can add up $1 trillion in skimming or self-dealing over my career,” said Elford in a news release.
“People may have some difficulty accepting that number, but remember that Nortel alone was a $366-billion hit to the public, and the United States justice system determined that insider fraud was responsible for Nortel’s collapse.”
He said the industry lacks effective regulation, and high-level executives and corporations responsible for such crimes have not been prosecuted.
Elford will speak in the Snell Gallery of the Red Deer Public Library at 7 p.m. on June 30. His one-hour presentation is a free preview of a MoneySchool.me course that Elford offers.
