I was disappointed on Dec. 27 to read in the Red Deer Advocate that a consultant has been hired by the City of Red Deer to create a pool concept. This is the last thing our community needs. City council has been spending money like drunken Liberals and its time for this to stop.
Residential and commercial taxpayers in our community simply can not afford to keep subsidizing the grandiose visions of certain misguided members of city council.
It’s bad enough that the local populace was foolish enough to elect these irresponsible members of council but couldn’t our city mothers and fathers have hired a local consultant? No, they had to send our tax dollars to Edmonton instead.
If swim club members want a 50-metre pool, then they and their parents can damn well pay for it as far as I am concerned. It’s time that city councillors stopped giving into every hair-brained request submitted to them.
Spending like drunken Liberals may get our short-sighted city councillors and mayor re-elected but it doesn’t impress me in our community. Does not city council realize that we are in an economic recession? Red Deer cannot afford more spending and higher taxes.
