Burress speaks out

Plaxico Burress has a simple message for kids: Make good decisions.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Plaxico Burress has a simple message for kids: Make good decisions. The wide receiver who is hoping to restart his NFL career this upcoming season spoke with children from the Urban League of Broward County on Thursday, telling them about the nightclub shooting that sent him to prison and how he “took everything away” from himself in that one decision.

Burress told the children, “Every decision you make has consequences.” Burress was released from prison last month, after serving nearly two years. He pleaded guilty in August 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, the charge stemming from his bringing a gun into a Manhattan nightclub and accidentally shooting himself in the thigh. Burress last appeared in an NFL game Nov. 23, 2008, and turns 34 next month.
