Butt Ugly was awarded the 2012 Barb Tarbox Award for Youth and Young Adults at the Alberta Tobacco Stakeholders Conference in Edmonton on Wednesday.

The award recognizes individuals, non-profit groups and businesses in Alberta that have made a significant impact in the area of tobacco prevention, cessation, reduction or protection from second-hand smoke.

Butt Ugly is a program that uses drama to educate students in Grades 6 and 7 about the dangers of tobacco use. Developed in 1995, Butt Ugly has reached over 40,000 students in Central Alberta.

Alberta Health Services established the Barb Tarbox Awards to continue the anti-tobacco advocate’s legacy.
