Cab driver fights for life after late night collision

A 55-year-old cab driver is fighting for his life in hospital after his cab collided with a Ford Focus in Red Deer early Saturday morning.

A 55-year-old cab driver is fighting for his life in hospital after his cab collided with a Ford Focus in Red Deer early Saturday morning.

Red Deer City RCMP say around 12:45 a.m. the taxi driver was travelling north on 30th Avenue when he approached the intersection of 55th Street when a south bound Ford Focus slammed into the cab while trying to make a left hand turn onto Highway 11A .

The taxi driver was on duty at the time of the collision and had one passenger in the vehicle.

The taxi driver sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital. The 22-year-old male passenger was also taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Ford Focus was treated at the scene and released.

The collision is under investigation. Names are not being released at this time. No charges have been laid.
