SICAMOUS, B.C. — Police have identified the Calgary couple killed in a crash in B.C.’s southern Interior, about 450 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

RCMP in Sicamous, B.C., say 56-year-old Ahmed Medhat Ibrahim-Barakat and his 52-year-old wife Soad Mohamed Kahlil died when their car was hit broadside by an oncoming pick-up truck late Monday afternoon.

The couple were in the front and rear right-side passenger seats of the family car while their 21-year-old son was driving the Mazda 3.

Police say the son lost control and the car clipped a bridge abutment before bouncing sideways into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, exposing Ibrahim-Barakat and Kahlil to the brunt of the impact.

The driver’s 14-year-old brother was in the rear left passenger seat and survived but remains in hospital recovering from severe injuries, including several broken bones.

RCMP say the driver, who was not seriously hurt, won’t be identified while an investigation continues and possible charges are considered.
