Calgary girl tumbles from window

A two-year-old Calgary girl is in critical condition after falling from a window at her home.

CALGARY — A two-year-old Calgary girl is in critical condition after falling from a window at her home.

Stuart Brideaux, spokesman for Alberta Health Services, says the toddler fell near six metres from a second-storey window.

Neighbour Marylynn Arbic, 19, was doing homework at the time.

She says she heard a really loud, high-pitched scream.

Paramedics tool the girl to Alberta Children’s hospital.

Arbic said though she doesn’t know the child or her family, it worries her she was able to access the window.

“What worries me is she was able to get the screen out and was not being watched,” she said.

Brideaux said the incident should serve as a reminder to keep windows out of reach of children or install devices in them to prevent them from opening too far. “Don’t underestimate a child’s ability to climb — furniture under a window can be used to climb and many will take the opportunity to access the window.”
