Calgary kids hid in closet during break-in

CALGARY — Calgary police say two children showed poise and bravery as they hid in a closet while intruders broke into their home.

CALGARY — Calgary police say two children showed poise and bravery as they hid in a closet while intruders broke into their home.

Police say a 13- year-old boy and his 17-year-old sister were home early Monday evening when people began knocking on the door.

The knocks became more aggressive when the kids did not answer the door and the suspects then kicked in the door to get in.

The children called 911 and hid in a bedroom closet, staying on the line as the two suspects went through the house.

Police say one of the culprits was in the same room as the kids at one point.

The suspects fled jut before police arrived, and police say the kids were shaken but unhurt.

Police say a possible vehicle associated to this is a mid-sized, four door, blue sedan.

A similar incident happened in southeast Calgary in January, when a 12-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister were home alone when two men broke in.

The siblings hid in a closet and called police, and the culprits were still in the home when police arrive.

But one jumped out a window and the other ran out the back door to a waiting truck.

The stolen vehicle was located a short time later, but the suspects were gone.
