CALGARY — A Calgary man has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for slashing his 11-month-old son with a kitchen knife.

The 32-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, was charged after police responded to a 911 call at a home in the city’s southeast on Aug. 13.

Officers found an angry and agitated man and a baby inside the home.

The child had been slashed several times on the neck and the abdomen with a kitchen knife.

The man’s lawyer, Alain Hepner, said his client just wanted to have the issue dealt with.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 3 after another mental health assessment and pre-sentence report.
