CALGARY — A Calgary man has been sentenced to five years in jail for killing his wife during an argument about her having an affair.

CALGARY — A Calgary man has been sentenced to five years in jail for killing his wife during an argument about her having an affair.

Shenjun An, 44, was charged a year ago after his 41-year-old wife, Yarong (Susan) Cheng, was found dead in their home.

Justice Alan Macleod gave An double credit for the one year he has already spent in custody, meaning he has three years left to serve.

The judge said if police would have intervened after receiving a 911 call from the victim around midnight, the tragedy might have been averted.

He also said he has never witnessed a person with such a sense of responsibility and guilt, but spousal abuse is inexcusable and a life was lost.

Macleod also says he accepts that An didn’t intend to kill his wife, but he lost it when he found out she was having an affair.
