Calgary police hand out nearly 300 distracted driving tickets in first month

Calgary police say that in the first month after distracted driving legislation came into force, they handed out 280 tickets to motorists.

CALGARY — Calgary police say that in the first month after distracted driving legislation came into force, they handed out 280 tickets to motorists.

Most of the tickets were for using a hand-held cell phone.

A few tickets were also issued for using other electronic devices, like GPS and music players.

Police say they’ve heard a fair number of excuses, like people saying they were planning on buying a Bluetooth device but hadn’t gotten around to it yet
